Dear Art: I wanted to write this letter to tell others not to make the same mistakes we made, that have devastated our family financially for years to come. Thank you for the time you spent with us. Hopefully, those reading this can avoid what we went through. Foreclosure is not pretty. Bankruptcy is even worse. As you know, we had abandoned our house because we were worried that someone could show up at any time and throw us and our belongings out on the street. Later I realized that the bank could legally lock us out and retain all of our possessions, leaving us no where to go. After talking to you, I learned of several options that I could have pursued, that I was unaware of when we were going through our dilemma. Whoever is reading this letter needs to pay attention. NOT ONLY WILL CHAPTER 13 BANKRUPTCY NOT KEEP YOU FROM LOSING YOUR HOME, IT WILL PUT YOU THROUGH A FINANCIAL NIGHTMARE THAT IS HORRIFYING BEYOND YOUR WILDEST DREAMS. Please, please, please let my painful mistake keep you from making the same, and having your life ruined. Well, we didn’t know what we were getting into. And if we did, we never in a million years would have done it. We somehow believed the lies that everything would be alright afterwards. Nothing could’ve been further from the truth. Here’s what happened to us—at all costs—don’t let it happen to you! After going Chapter 13, we struggled to make our regular house payments. In addition, we had to make another huge payment to the court, which absolutely crushed us. We were only able to do this for a very short period of time. We couldn’t keep up with the payments. Without notification of any kind, the court put our house back into foreclosure. We had no knowledge of this. We ended up losing everything, including the monies we paid over the last few months, and all the extra money we paid to the courts. That doesn’t even include the loss of time from work due to going to lawyers and court hearings and a bankruptcy on our credit report. Unfortunately, we met with the team of WeBuyHomes too late in the game. I say game, because the courts and those involved tried (and did) take us for all we were worth. Art educated us on what we could have done if we would have come to him sooner. He explained the foreclosure and bankruptcy process, and what, specifically, we could have done to avoid all that we went through. I truly wish that we would have met Art sooner. Who knows where we would be today? We probably wouldn’t have lost our house. We certainly would not have the horrible stigma of a Bankruptcy and Foreclosure on our credit. And most likely we would be able to get loans that weren’t at loan shark rates of 18% and above. I realize that I may have come across very angry, even bitter in this letter. Forgive me. I just hope that relating what we went through can help others avoid the same. Carlos & Melinda R.
